Evil Dead (2013)

So I've been a huge fan of the Evil Dead series ever since working at Blockbuster Video 10 years ago and subjecting myself to almost every horror movie ever made in search of the real gems that are out there. I found one in The Evil Dead. It was the cabin in the woods scenario done to near perfection by now super famous film director Sam Raimi. But fast forward 30+ years, could a remake of such a horror classic be done correctly without becoming a modern day abomination? Well, it can if the original film director hand pics the new director and they collaborate on ideas. This isn't a remake as much as a re-envisioning and I think that is the way it needed to be.

But was it any good? Yes, it was really everything that I wanted it to be. It was insanely bloodly and graphically disturbing. You care just enough about the characters to not want to see them die and it seems to take some of them a long time to die. Director Fede Alvarez tortures these poor kids as much as an evil demon from hell would. It was gritty, it was well done and I did have a good chuckle here and there when the insanity of certain situations where ramped up to almost more than I could handle. It's so good that Sam Raimi green lighted a sequel almost instantly. You will probably vomit no less than 5 times during this movie so just be prepared for that. Check out some screenshots below.

On my list of movies to watch, after this review I'm more inclined to actually get around to it. :P

Let me know what you thought of it after you watch it. And if you haven't seen the original Evil Dead you should probably do that just to see the similarities.
